From there to Paris France for a live concert broadcast on Radio France Inter hosted by M. Andre Francis the legendary French Jazz Radio Producer. The concert/broadcast took place in March of 1996. From Paris to Frankfurt Germany to the AFN Europe Headquarters, Jon Hammond and the Late Rent Session Men live on AFN's Powerlite Show, the trio was crowded around one big old Neumann tube microphone and broadcast world-wide live of first performance of Jon's composition "New Funk/Hip-Hop Chitlins" with James Preston of the Sons of Champlin on drums, Barry Finnerty-guitar and Jon on Hammond XB-2 organ. It was an important time of my life and career and he was always very generous to me, kept me on my toes throwing tunes at me in all keys the music never stopped once we hit. I just saw Lou a few days ago in Fort Myers FL at the gig he was playing at his Daughter Sherri's restaurant and hub Marc Neeley - Roadhouse Cafe, he was at the top of his game, playing great as ever and looking like a million dollars. I am deeply saddened to receive terrible tragic news this morning from Lou's fine trombonist Nelson E. Foucht that Lou was tragically killed last night just 4 blocks from Roadhouse Cafe coming home from the gig. My deepest condolences to the Colombo Family, Lou's Wife Noel, daughters Lori, Sherri, David all his 6 kids, extended Family of friends and musicians. I am totally blown away, thankful that I had the opportunity to know him and play with him nightly back in the 70's and then to see and hear him again at the end of his life, thanks Lou! Big Lou - Louis Colombo the greatest trumpet player bandleader baseball slugger and golfer ever! I used to go with Lou to the golf course where he had the snack concession in Yarmouth just to watch him drive balls in to outer space. I couldn't believe how far and hard he could hit the ball. Lou would put on black executioner gloves and hit the ball and it would disappear, just keep on sailing in to the sky like Lou's spirit must be now. His music and great memories will live on forever. *Note: Lou called me on my cell phone when I was at the airport just about to fly out of Tampa TPA Airport, he told me he really dug my album that I had given him "NDR SESSIONS Projekt" my first record of mostly standards, it was inspired much by him actually. Lou was talking about the horn players on it, Lutz Buechner and Joe "Jo" Gallardo, he really dug them and he told me we were going to do something back up in the Cape for sure. I was very touched by his call and he had called me on my previous birthday last year, I got all choked up when he told me that. Thanks a million Lou! I played on Lou's band for 2.5 years in the late 70's in house band at the Wychmere Harbor Club in Cape Cod. Lou is going strong happy to report, playing regularly at the restaurant of his daughter Sherri and son inlaw Marc Neeley - Roadhouse Cafe during winter months and in the summer he plays at his son David's Roadhouse Cafe in Hyannis MA on Cape Cod. I schlepped my Hammond Sk1 organ all the way down there in hopes I could sit in with Lou for a couple of tunes but unfortunately that wasn't possible, however I shot some video of Lou and his fine group, so enjoy the music and personality of Lou Colombo, one of the all-time greats on his instrument! The musicians on Lou's band here at Roadhouse Cafe are Nelson Foucht on trombone, F.L. "Woody" Brubaker piano and keyboard bass, Richard Iannuzzi drums and Gil DiBenedetto tenor saxophone and clarinet. This is my Hammond Sk1 Organ in GKPE-49-TSA Gator Flight Case after I finally got it back from Newark EWR Airport after flying with it to Fort Myers from San Francisco, then taking it to Lou's gig at Roadhouse Cafe, flying to JFK but my organ went to Newark by mistake. It was supposed to be delivered but they never even left the airport with it, so I took a bus ride back out to New Jersey from Times Square and picked it up personally. You can see the big INSPECTED sticker that TSA plastered of my American Federation of Musicians Union sticker. 2 days later I flew with it to San Francisco for a gig and that's where I am now with my Sk1 Hammond Organ.

NEW YORK---Year-old BackBeat Productions hopes to break new ground in the video medium with it's first project, "The Jon Hammond Show." Currently airing on Manhattan Cable's Channel 3 and San Francisco's public access Channel 25, the program is a half hour of computer generated graphics synchronized with original jazz-fusion and rock music. Hammond's voice and his tapping boot are the only human intrusions during the show.
"It's an alternative to the conceptual and concert footage videos. We're delivering an art form." says the show's host, BackBeat's co-founder Jon Hammond. The company also functions as a label, and Hammond says the broadcast will be a vehicle to expose artists on the BackBeat roster.
Hammond say's he's close to securing slots on public access channels in New Orleans, Baltimore, Chicago, Los Angeles and Boston and plans to recoup investements by syndicating the show to national networks if and when it gains an audience.
His partner in the venture is former Crusaders guitarist Barry Finnerty, who wrote the music for the first program. All songs on the "Jon Hammond Show" feature BackBeat's studio band of Finnerty, keyboardist Hammond, drummer Steve Ferrone and saxophonist Todd Anderson.

Thanks Steve! As follows: On January 11th 2005 I attended The MacWorld Expo Keynote given by Steve Jobs at Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco. Just prior to MacWorld my first album re-release digitally remastered "Late Rent" went on to the iTunes Store so I was very excited about the whole concept of being able to offer my music through the iTunes platform and I brought along one of the CD's in my pocket. The Keynote was really great, although I wasn't really sure that Steve was there live because he was projected up on to the big screen throughout the presentation. I thought it might be possible that it was a prepared film, but he occasionally made references to the day's weather (rain predicted) and some other things that made it current. Near the end of the presentation he brought out a surprise guest, President of Sony Kunitake Ando and they pledged a commitment to work together on HD video. John Mayer came out and played at the end, the presentation was over and so I went in to the exhibits directly afterwards. I was speaking with one of the Apple black shirt guys when all of a sudden I saw Steve. He saw me and I know he doesn't like to be approached but he must have thought he either knew me or recognized me and he came right over to meet me. I saw him coming so I reached in my pocket and pulled out my CD Late Rent fresh copy still in the shrink wrap. I introduced myself and thanked Steve for the wonderful opportunity for all the composers and musicians to get our music out through iTunes (I am a member of ASCAP) and I told him I would like to give him my Late Rent album if he would take it. He said "Sure!" He then (this showed me how intense he is, I will never forget) I handed it to him and right away he looked at the cover art work and then looked straight at me to verify it was indeed me on the cover. He then said "Thanks!" and I told him it was great to meet him...Steve walked away holding the CD in both hands still studying the artwork intensely as approx. 50 people were following him like the Pied Piper, shouting out Steve Steve...over here!. JON HAMMOND Instruments: Organ, Accordion, Piano, Guitar Attended: Berklee College of Music 1974, City College San Francisco Languages: English, German Musician: Jon Hammond is one of the premier B3 PLAYERS in the world. Jon has played professionally since age 12. Beginning as a solo accordionist, he later played Hammond B3 organ in a number of important San Francisco bands. His all original group HADES opened shows for Tower of Power, Quicksilver Messenger Service and Michael Bloomfield. Eddie Money and Barry Finnerty became musical associates. Moving East he attended Berklee College of Music and played venues as diverse as Boston's "Combat Zone" in the striptease clubs during the '70's and the exclusive Wychmere Harbor Club in Cape Cod, where he was house organist and developed a lasting friendship with House Speaker Tip O'Neill. He also toured the Northeast and Canada with the successful show revue "Easy Living", and continued his appearances at nightclubs in Boston and New York. Subsequently Hammond lived and traveled in Europe, where he has an enthusiastic following. TV/Video Producer: In 1981 Jon formed BackBeat Productions. Assisted by Lori Friedman (Video by LORI), the innovative TV show "The Jon Hammond Show" became a Manhattan Cable TV favorite. Jon's "Live on the street" video style included news events, as well as live music/video clips of Dizzy Gillespie, Paul Butterfield, Jaco Pastorius, John Entwistle, Sammy Davis Jr., Percy Sledge and many others. The weekly show is now in it's 22nd year and has influenced the broadcasts of David Letterman and others. Billboard Magazine hailed Jon's show as "The Alternative to MTV". The Jon Hammond Show can be seen worldwide at various times streaming from www.mnn.org and on channels 56 and 108 in Manhattan. The company began as a harmonica maker and over the years has developed innovative instruments such as a full line of wood harmonicas for music education. The crowd that gathered bopped and boogied to the groove-who needed a drummer? Not these guys!!
